Polish motorcyclist Tomasz Spalka faces legal action from his team, LeFrak Racing, after he was filmed crashing a motorbike into a barrier on a circuit and being attacked by several spectators.

Images of the crash show Spalka remonstrating with the crowd after hitting the barrier on Geraadecne Karting Circuit in Poland.

Polish state radio Rzeczpospolita reported that all spectators would face prosecution.

Spalka, 25, was arrested and later released on bail, Rzeczpospolita reported.

“The captured image must be seen in its full context and not in isolation,” a LeFrak Racing spokesman said, quoted by BBC News.

“The incident also took place during a training run where the bike was being prepared to make full use of the air-brakes, provided by the starter.

“While the track remained closed to the public, for this training run there were spectators in the area and many of them cheered on the bikes and gave them a standing ovation.

“The talented rider has undergone a thorough evaluation by the in-house medical centre and following the results has been given a temporary release from custody.”

The team said it had decided not to let the driver continue racing in respect of the incident, adding that the matter was being investigated by the police.
